Istituto Istruzione Secondario Superiore "Ruggero II"
Italian Cultural Heritage Video
Report from the mobility in Italy
LTTs centred on historical and architectural heritage of our area, promoting the knowledge of each other’s origins. New technologies for video making and the use of English for each activity “modernized” the past.
Day 1: Welcoming ceremony. Each country showed materials prepared during local work (what they are going to put in the video). Tour of the school. Coordinators meeting to plan the whole project and check the project Rule Book. Introduction to the mobility video contest. The project logo contest resolution. Law teachers taught us about European legal requirements in video making and publishing, copyrights and responsibilities; a film maker introduced us to filming techniques; summaries were given to each team as prompts to work on in future works. Students and teachers visited the ceramics laboratories of our Art Lyceum and made practical activities to create typical handcrafts of our area.
Day 2: Participants were shown our Norman cultural and architectural heritage: our school is named after RUGGERO II, a Norman king who lived here and signed the ASSISE, the first written laws in history. We saw videos about a historical parade we have each summer to remember the gift of 2 thorns from Christ’s Crown by king Charles of Angiò to our town. We visited the Norman Castle of Ariano Irpino and the Cathedral where the holy thorns are kept.
Day 3: Educational trip to the towns of Castel del Monte and Trani, which host two of the most important Norman castles of our area and are a strong testimony of Norman architecture.
Day 4: Participants were involved in a live reconstruction, wearing traditional costumes, of the gift of the holy thorns. Visit to the town of Zungoli, with its Norman castle and its underground caves, where they made and kept traditional cheese: the “caciocavallo”. Participants were involved in making the cheese.
Day 5: Visit to the interactive didactic ceramics' museum of Ariano Irpino. Video contest resolution. Coordinators meeting: coordinators signed the Rule Book and fixed dates and other details for next mobilities.
During the whole week activities videos were made both for the project final product and for promoting our school and area.
