Turkish Cultural Heritage Video
Report from the mobility in Türkiye
Within LTT, this project revealed how we were all connected to each other in the history and cultural infrastructure. In the course of this cultural journey to the attractive and historical areas, we explored new ways of creative thinking and learned that more hands could make for lighter works. Step by step, the students developed stronger communicative skills and established a shared identity with other group members. They received social support and encouragement to take the challenges and risks.
Day 1: Presentation of the school partnership and the students' orientation program. Participants were shown a presentation of the school, hometown, Fethiye with its historical background, the purpose of the project and project activities. The participants were instructed about visual storytelling.
Day 2: Participants visited Patara ancient city, an ancient Lycian harbor city, which is also now known as the birthplace of St. Nicholas. A mini concert was performed in the antic theater by the students. A visit to Letoon, ancient city and Xantos, which was the capital of Licia, now in the list of World Heritage by UNESCO. The students created a video and photo database.
Day 3: In the school activities, the students enjoyed Turkish traditional folk dance, music and costumes through the school orienting performance and had an opportunity to take a role in each performance. They had a chance to make an analogy and gained a different perspective about the traditional habits and cultural differences. At school computer lab, they gathered all the visuals and edited music.
Day 4: Participants had a boat trip from Oludeniz and Butterflies Valley, which is still an important ecotourism attraction and is rich in flora and fauna. They also visited Kayakoy, which was an the old Lycia province. From Ancient Greek the town name shifted to Koine Greek by the Roman period, evolved into Byzantine Greek in the Middle Ages, and became the Modern Greek name until their final evacuation in 1923.
Day 5: After all sightseeing to the historical attractions and cultural heritage, we created a promotional brochure of the videos taken during the mobilities in guidance with IT teachers. They were guided by the IT teacher how to do video editing tips and tricks. The students generated a school media by editing video of all the visual database which they created all during the activities.
